Job summary

Applied Intuition UK, part of Applied Intuition Defence, is seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer in London to advance autonomy across defense platforms, combining hardware integration with software in SIL/HIL environments.

As a senior engineer, you will lead architectural design, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams, ensuring safety‑critical, real‑time performance on embedded Linux and UAVs.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Robotics, Computer Science, or related engineering field.
• 6+ years of hands-on experience with robotic systems (hardware, software, integration).
• Experience leading technical design decisions on complex autonomy problems with minimal guidance.
• Experience developing autonomy behavior or navigation algorithms for robotic systems.
• Experience with modern C++.
• Experience integrating autonomy/robotics products with Pixhawk autopilots (ArduPilot and/or PX4).
• Experience integrating with communication busses & protocols: UART/RS232/RS422/RS485, SPI/QSPI, I2C, Ethernet.
• Experience developing in Docker, containerized deployments, and Linux-based OSes.
• Familiarity with SIL, HIL, safety-critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and architecture of autonomy solutions across platforms, making key trade‑offs.
• Mentor engineers, reviewing designs to maintain high standards.
• Develop and adapt mission behaviour, navigation, and decision‑making logic.
• Design and implement modular autonomy capabilities reusable across platforms.
• Integrate autonomy solutions onto embedded Linux and hardware, interfacing with sensors.
• Conduct system‑level setup, testing, and validation (SIL/HIL).
• Support live flight tests of autonomy software on UAVs.
• Troubleshoot complex software and integration issues across the stack.
• Collaborate with 3rd party UAS vendors and cross‑functional teams.
