Robotics Software Engineer – Autonomous Defense Systems

Job summary

Applied Intuition UK in London seeks a Robot Software Engineer to advance autonomy on defense platforms. You will work across field deployment, SIL/HIL testing, and on-site customer engagements to push autonomy from hardware to flight-ready software.

You will design modular autonomy, integrate with Pixhawk autopilots, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, safety-critical systems for defense customers.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Robotics, Computer Science, or related engineering field
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with robotic systems
• Experience with modern C++
• Experience developing autonomy behavior and navigation algorithms
• Experience integrating with Pixhawk autopilots (ArduPilot and/or PX4)
• Experience integrating with communication buses & protocols: UART/RS232/RS422/RS485, SPI/QSPI, I2C, Ethernet
• Experience developing in Docker, containerized deployment environments, and using Linux-based operating systems
• Familiarity with real-time, edge computing, and safety-critical systems operating in SIL/HIL
• Excellent communication skills and a customer-oriented project delivery mindset

Responsibilities

• Develop and adapt mission behavior, navigation, and decision-making logic for defense platforms and missions
• Design modular autonomy capabilities reusable across different vehicle types and programs
• Integrate and deploy autonomy solutions onto embedded Linux and other hardware platforms
• Conduct system-level setup, testing, and validation, including SIL and HIL evaluations
• Support live flight tests of autonomy software on UAVs
• Troubleshoot complex software and integration issues to ensure high reliability and performance
• Collaborate with 3rd party UAS vendors and cross-functional teams to bring autonomy software to life
