Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Principal Engineer in the UK, based in Leeds, Glasgow, Birmingham or Epsom, to lead FEED and detailed design for P&C substations within our Electrical Engineering group. You will deliver technically robust solutions and manage a high-performing team while collaborating closely with clients and internal colleagues.

The role emphasizes design leadership, bid preparation and cost estimation, stakeholder engagement, and business development in a hybrid working environment,

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience.
• Experience in P&C design of substations in UK or internationally.
• Experience in preparing bids and cost estimates for FEED and detailed design work.

Responsibilities

• Lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for electricity transmission substation projects.
• Line manage and mentor engineers; support recruitment and workforce planning.
• Oversee quality assurance of FEED, detailed design, and bid submissions.
• Review P&C plant designs and conduct design reviews.
• Coordinate with back-office engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Lead and support bids and proposals with technical input, resources and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with commercial and project management teams to develop competitive offers.
