Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks a Principal Engineer in Electrical Engineering to lead FEED and detailed design for HV substations, managing a high‑performing team and coordinating with clients and internal groups.

You will drive bid submissions, ensure technical integrity and regulatory compliance, and contribute to strategic growth. Flexible work model with client‑facing responsibilities across UK sites.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; working towards Chartered Engineer.
• Proven experience in P&C design of substations in UK or internationally.
• Experience in preparing bids and cost estimates for FEED and detailed design work.
• Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE).
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders; willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for electricity transmission substation projects, ensuring technical integrity and compliance.
• Line manage a team of engineers, providing mentorship, performance management and career development.
• Oversee and assure the delivery of FEED, detailed design, and bid submissions to the highest standards.
• Lead tender management for HV plant packages, reviewing offers and ensuring compliance.
• Chair design and hazard reviews, attend site visits, FAT and SAT as required.
• Maintain and grow client relationships and contribute to business development.
• Collaborate with other disciplines and subcontractors to deliver projects on time and within budget.
