Job summary

AtkinsRéalis UK Limited is seeking a Principal Engineer in Electrical Engineering to lead P&C substation FEED and detailed design efforts. You will manage a high-performing team, drive technical integrity, and oversee bid submissions for major transmission projects across the UK.

The role blends office-based leadership with client-facing delivery, requiring Chartered Engineer progression and strong knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• P&C design experience for substations (UK or international).
• Experience preparing bids and cost estimates for FEED and detailed design.
• Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE).

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers including mentorship and performance development.
• Head FEED and design workstreams for transmission substation projects.
• Oversee quality assurance for FEED, design, and bid submissions.
• Provide expert review of P&C plant aspects and lead design reviews.
• Coordinate with back-office engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Act as tender manager for HV plant packages and review technical offers.
• Chair design and hazard review meetings; attend site visits, FAT and SAT.
• Grow client relationships and contribute to business development.
• Lead and support bids with technical input, planning, and cost estimation.
• Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver competitive offers.
