Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Principal Engineer in the Electrical Engineering group to lead FEED and detailed design for HV transmission substations. You will manage a high-performing team, mentor engineers, and work closely with clients to deliver high-quality solutions.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status or progress toward it, UK/substation design experience, and the ability to travel to sites. You will contribute to business development and bid activity while maintaining technical

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer through the IET or similar route.
• Experience in P&C design of substations in UK or internationally.
• Experience in preparing bids and cost estimates for FEED and detailed design.
• Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE).
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders; travel to client sites when required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the electrical team, supporting recruitment, resourcing and development.
• Lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for transmission substation projects with technical integrity.
• Oversee delivery of FEED/detailed design to client specifications and quality standards.
• Chair design and hazard reviews; attend site visits, FAT and SAT as required.
• Manage interfaces with subcontractors, suppliers and back-office engineers for seamless delivery.
• Lead and support bids and proposals, including technical input, planning and cost estimation.
