Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full‑time Senior Mental Health Practitioner with a keen interest in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Autism and Learning Disabilities to work within our early intervention SEND Mental Health Support Team (MHST). The post holder will be involved in the continuing development and implementation of the SEND MHST.

The SEND MHST delivers evidence‑based interventions supporting emotional well‑being through groups, individual interventions, consultation and training whilst incorporating a full assessment of need. The aim of the SEND MHST is to support a whole‑school approach to develop, build and support emotional well‑being.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Mental Health Practitioner who can work flexibly and is committed to the success and delivery of the project. The post is full time with flexible working opportunities considered. It is based in Sandridge Gate, St Albans with regular planned travel across Hertfordshire and West Essex.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all clinical interventions and resources within the service.
  • Plan and lead workshops and therapeutic groups.
  • Work in partnership with schools and provide training and support to them.
  • Provide clinical supervision and line management to Band 5, 6 and 7 staff.
  • Develop learning and development opportunities for the whole team.
  • Offer a SEND consultation service to other MHSTs.
  • Assess and manage risk and safeguarding.
  • Establish and maintain effective inter‑agency and inter‑team communication.
  • Provide specialist assessment, intervention, advice and consultation on CYP’s care to colleagues, professionals from other agencies and to other non‑professional carers.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism when working in settings where there is a highly emotive atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and resilience under pressure.
  • Work both in a team environment and autonomously.
  • Drive across Hertfordshire and West Essex; hold a full valid driving licence and access to a car for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
Qualifications
  • Registered mental health practitioner with a minimum of five years’ experience.
  • Vast experience of SEMH provisions and working with CYP who have experienced trauma.
