Job summary

COWI is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a Water Utilities background to deliver mechanical infrastructure design including water supply and wastewater systems. The role emphasizes collaboration across UK and international hubs, with hybrid working and opportunities to broaden into other MEP areas.

Key requirements include a degree in mechanical engineering, Chartered Engineer status, hands-on design experience, and proficiency in 3D/BIM tools.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering or similar.
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
• Experience in mechanical systems design.
• Ability to act as discipline lead and provide technically sound solutions.
• Solid understanding of water-based systems: pressurised mains, pumping stations, treatment works.
• Hydraulic modelling of pipe networks, steady state and transient analysis.
• Knowledge of pipe supports and stress calculations.
• Exposure to lifting equipment, actuated gates and building services is a plus.
• Experience with 3D and BIM design.
• Knowledge of UK Water Industry Specifications (WIMES).
• Experience applying CDM2015 to design tasks.
• Design and build project exposure including designer on site.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design of projects for a wide range of clients.
• Plan design work and deliverables with the wider MEP team.
• Develop and technically assure design outputs using relevant software.
• Ensure compliance with local and international standards.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary aspects of projects.
• Mentor junior team members in design.
• Support client relationships and stakeholder engagement.
