Job summary

CIBSE Journal is seeking a Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical design on major UK water and wastewater schemes. The role supports a design & build contractor with nationwide projects and hybrid working options from home or local offices.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, review designs and submissions, and guide packages from feasibility through detailed design to delivery, ensuring compliant, practical solutions across water infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience delivering projects through the full design life cycle.
• Previous UK Water or Wastewater sector experience.
• Experience working on AMP-related projects for a UK Water Authority.
• Experience using 3D design tools and other proprietary software.
• Ability to take technical responsibility for smaller projects and work packages.

Responsibilities

• Deliver feasibility, outline, detailed and final mechanical design work.
• Review mechanical designs, technical specifications, proposals and submissions.
• Take technical responsibility for smaller projects, work packages and individual design tasks.
• Support key design reviews for Water Authority AMP projects.
• Work on Water treatment works, Wastewater treatment works, pumping stations, reservoirs and associated water infrastructure.
• Provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams and project stakeholders.
