Job description

Senior Marine Engineer – Conwy, North Wales Salary: From £34,000 | Full‑time | Permanent

I’m recruiting for an experienced Senior Marine Engineer to join a thriving marina and boatyard based in stunning Conwy, perfectly placed for anyone who loves boats, the coast, and varied hands‑on engineering work. This site offers lift‑out up to 30T, maintenance facilities, chandlery support, and training services, making it an energetic and well‑served hub for both berth‑holders and visiting boaters.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, takes pride in quality workmanship, and is looking to be part of a friendly, collaborative team where no two days look the same.

The role

You’ll take the lead on servicing, diagnostics, and repair work across a range of recreational and small commercial vessels (up to approx. 60ft). Work will centre around installation and maintenance of onboard systems—engines, drivetrains, generators, electrics, plumbing (fresh water and waste), and associated mechanical components.

Alongside engineering duties, you’ll support day‑to‑day boatyard activity including lifts, pressure‑washing, blocking‑off and launch operations, ensuring a safe, clean and well‑managed working environment throughout.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain high standards of safety and environmental compliance at all times
  • Repair, refit and service vessels for resident and visiting customers
  • Diagnose, service and install in‑board & out‑board engines (diesel and petrol)
  • Fit, upgrade and maintain electrical, plumbing and onboard systems
  • Support boatyard operations including lifting, washing, blocking & relaunching
  • Maintain clear communication with colleagues and customers
  • Operate plant/equipment safely once trained
  • Ensure the boatyard remains clean, tidy and hazard‑free
  • Complete timesheets and maintenance logs accurately
  • Protect customer equipment and vessels while in the company’s care
What we’re looking for
  • Background in marine engineering or boat maintenance
  • Confident with diagnostics, servicing & mechanical repair
  • Experience with onboard electrical and plumbing systems
  • Positive, adaptable, “can‑do” attitude and a team‑focused approach
  • Good customer interaction skills
  • Physically fit — comfortable working outdoors & lifting up to 25kg safely
  • Ability to swim (essential)
  • Willingness to train in boat handling, towing & plant operation
What you’ll get
  • Competitive salary
  • 29 days annual leave including bank holidays
  • Bonus scheme + additional employee benefits
  • Health cash plan, Life Insurance, Cycle‑to‑Work & Employee Assistance Programme
  • Discounts on berthing and boat sales
  • Training & development opportunities
  • Friendly team culture and coastal working environment
  • Free on‑site parking

If you’re a marine engineer ready to step into a senior position with plenty of variety, responsibility and sea‑air in your working week — I’d love to hear from you.
