Job summary

A leading legal recruitment agency seeks a Senior Pensions Lawyer with a strong background in pensions law, particularly defined benefits schemes. In this role, you will support a FTSE Financial Services Group in delivering first-class legal services. Your responsibilities include providing legal advice, managing legal risks, and collaborating with senior leaders. Ideal candidates will possess strong negotiation and communication skills and have a significant track record in-house or at a leading law firm.

Qualifications

  • Essential to have significant post-qualification experience as a barrister/solicitor.
  • Knowledge of Pensions law including experience with defined benefits schemes is vital.
  • Strong negotiation and collaboration skills are crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Group General Counsel in achieving strategic objectives from a Legal perspective.
  • Provide legal advice and support on complex transactional matters.
  • Assist in the management of legal risks in accordance with the Group’s tolerances.

Senior Pensions Lawyer 5+

Outstanding and very rare opportunity for an experienced pensions lawyer with experience of defined benefits schemes to join a FTSE Financial Services Group that continues to grow.

As the Senior Solicitor (Defined Benefits) you will support the growth of the company in relation to key legal services of varying complexity, ensuring the delivery of a first class commercial and legal service in a dynamic and ever-evolving environment.

Responsibilities
  • To support the Group General Counsel and Legal Leadership Team in achieving the Group’s strategic objectives from a Legal perspective, collaborating with key senior leaders and managers across the businesses and group functions as well as solicitors across the wider Legal team.
  • Provide legal advice, drafting, negotiating, influencing and support in relation to complex transactional matters, business requests, contracts.
  • To assist with the management and timely delivery of project related activity, as appropriate.
  • To assist with the early identification, management, monitoring and mitigation of Legal risk in accordance with the Group’s risk appetites and tolerances.
  • To ensure that the Group General Counsel and / or Assistant General Counsels are appropriately updated of all legal risks.
Skills & Experience
  • Qualified barrister / solicitor with significant post qualification experience is essential
  • Knowledge and experience of Pensions law including DB pension schemes and ideally DC schemes
  • Knowledge of Insurance and Reinsurance law is desirable
  • DB de-risking and BPA contract work experience is essential
  • Demonstrable communication and collaboration skills required
  • Strong negotiation skills required

Currently working in-house or at a leading law firm, you will be keen to move in-house where you can work directly with a range of clients and make a highly visible impact.

Reinsurance lawyers with some exposure to the pensions are also strongly encouraged to apply.
