Job summary

the company is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to own the deployment architecture and drive platform maturity. You will be embedded with engineering teams, modernising our on-premise estate and shaping the rollout of a new Kubernetes platform, with autonomy over CI/CD pipelines and migration strategies.

This hands-on role focuses on delivering value safely and rapidly, building guardrails and self-service tooling, and helping engineering teams move fast while preserving stability across

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills: we're a people-first culture where teamwork is paramount.
• Strong, demonstrable experience with Ansible: roles, inventories, vault, idempotency, the lot
• Comfortable with Docker and Docker Compose in production environments
• Understanding of networking fundamentals
• Strong scripting ability: Bash and Python
• Experience with GitOps tooling: ArgoCD or Flux
• Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Alertmanager or equivalent)
• Ability to think creatively within constraints and plan pragmatically around them: our stack is real-world, not greenfield-perfect, and we need someone who can deliver iteratively, working with what exists today while roadmapping towards the ideal state
• A methodical, security-conscious approach

Responsibilities

• Utilise Ansible-based deployment automation to facilitate seamless product feature releases, adhering to TechOps peer-review processes.
• Monitor application health within the cluster, collaborating with TechOps on incident response and driving post-mortems for engineering-led deployments.
• Maintain deployment runbooks and developer self-service guides to streamline onboarding and releases.
• Represent Engineering as a key stakeholder in platform design and shape self-service workflows, guardrails, and standards for Kubernetes.
• Standardise configurations for ingress, RBAC, namespaces, and secrets management.
• Drive phased application migrations: containerise and migrate workloads to Kubernetes, starting with non-critical environments.
• Build CI/CD pipelines for Kubernetes deployments with Helm, Kustomize, ArgoCD, or similar with automated guardrails.
• Implement application observability: metrics, logging, and alerting within namespaces for visibility.
• Create developer self-service documentation: runbooks, templates, and best practices.
