Senior Architect / Senior Technologist – Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Architect or Senior Architectural Technologist to join a Commercial Architecture team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record within the commercial sector, with experience in retail, industrial, logistics, office, and educational projects. You will be confident working across all RIBA work stages, with particular strength in producing and coordinating detailed construction information and supporting projects through to site delivery.

Applicants should be Part 3 RIBA / ARB qualified or MCIAT, with a minimum of 8+ years of post‑qualification practical experience. Strong technical ability, excellent communication skills, and the capability to maintain effective client relationships are essential. You should be comfortable running projects independently while also working collaboratively within a team.

Job Description
  • Draft commercial design schemes from initial concepts through to planning, tender, and construction package stages.
  • Produce high‑quality drawings and documentation using AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, SketchUp, Revit, and related software.
  • Apply strong creative and technical problem‑solving skills while maintaining effective communication with clients, consultants, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of Building Regulations and apply this to project design and delivery.
  • Lead the technical development of designs across RIBA Stages 1–6.
  • Support an established team in meeting increasing project workloads.
  • Act as project lead, managing deadlines, coordinating information, attending client and design team meetings (remote and on site).
Person Specification
  • Confident in client‑facing roles and able to work effectively with client teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and workstreams simultaneously.
  • Competent in producing and managing detailed drawings.
  • Skilled in coordinating and checking information from external consultants for seamless integration into project designs.
  • Capable of undertaking independent site visits and producing accurate records.
  • Good understanding of the planning system and statutory processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations and practical application.
  • Willingness to attend industry events and represent the team when required.
  • Basic understanding of project budgeting.
Portfolio Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate strong design capability alongside robust technical design development, detailing, and coordination experience.

Specific Experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modelling software is essential.
  • Experience with NBS specification writing is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Revit, SketchUp, Photoshop, and other presentation tools is beneficial.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for project needs.
