Job summary

Long Term Futures is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a Selly Oak primary school. The role focuses on pupils with Autism, non-verbal communication needs and SEMH within the SEN Hub, delivering tailored 1:1 and small group support.

You will collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to foster a calm, inclusive learning environment using visual strategies and communication aids to help pupils access learning.

Qualifications

• Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent).
• Experience supporting children with ASD, non-verbal communication needs and/or SEMH.
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support within the school's SEN Hub.
• Support pupils with Autism (including non-verbal pupils) and SEMH needs.
• Use visual strategies, PECS, Makaton and communication aids where appropriate.
• Promote emotional regulation, independence and positive behaviour.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals.
• Help create a calm, engaging and inclusive learning environment.
