Job summary

Long Term Futures Ltd is recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Selly Oak, Birmingham, starting September 2026. The role is term-time only, Monday to Friday, with a focus on pupils with Autism, non-verbal communication needs and SEMH, in a supportive SEN Hub.

You will provide 1:1 and small group support, using PECS/Makaton and other communication aids to help learners access the curriculum in a calm, structured environment.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting children with ASD, non-verbal communication needs and/or SEMH.
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies desirable.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach with strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Promote emotional regulation, independence and positive behaviour.

  • Help create a calm, engaging and inclusive learning environment.

Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs?

A welcoming primary school in Selly Oak is seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEN Hub from September 2026. This role involves supporting pupils with Autism, non-verbal communication needs and SEMH, helping them access learning in a safe, structured and nurturing environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive and experienced team, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position.

Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support within the school's SEN Hub
  • Support pupils with Autism (including non-verbal pupils) and SEMH needs

What We're Looking For
  • Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience supporting children with ASD, non-verbal communication needs and/or SEMH
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies is desirable
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
