AMA Admin is seeking an experienced Primary Teacher with strong SEND experience to join a supportive specialist setting outside of Guildford. You will deliver high-quality English teaching across the primary age range, supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs in a nurturing, patient environment.

Qualifications

  • QTS with experience teaching within a primary setting.
  • Strong experience teaching English across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.
  • Significant experience working with SEND pupils in a mainstream, specialist, SEND or alternative provision setting.
  • A strong understanding of how SEND can impact learning, communication and behaviour.
  • Experience adapting and differentiating lessons for pupils with additional needs.
  • Strong behaviour management and a relational, trauma-informed approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may be disengaged or have experienced barriers to education.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning.
  • A patient, flexible and nurturing approach to supporting pupils with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across the primary age range, adapting teaching to suit individual needs.
  • Support pupils with reading, writing, phonics, spelling, comprehension and communication.
  • Adapt and differentiate lessons to meet individual EHCP targets, learning needs and abilities.
  • Use SEND-friendly teaching strategies to support pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH, sensory and communication needs.
  • Break down learning into manageable, accessible steps to help pupils build confidence and independence.
  • Create a calm, structured and predictable classroom environment.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage engagement with learning.
  • Support pupils who may have previously struggled to engage with mainstream education.
  • Work closely with SENCOs, teaching assistants, pastoral staff and families to provide consistent support.
  • Contribute to individual support plans and monitor pupil progress.
  • Use positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies to support pupils who may struggle with engagement or self-regulation.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience in their learning.
