Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR 2B

A secondary school in the Tunbridge Wells area is seeking an experienced SENCO for a full-time permanent role starting January 2026, working with students aged 11–18.

Essential Requirements
  • Recent experience as a SENCO
  • National Award for SEN Co-ordination

  • Availability to start January 2026
Role Purpose

Under the direction of the Headteacher, the SENCO will:

  • Lead SEND provision across the school
  • Oversee the SEND policy and targeted support plans
  • Provide professional guidance to staff and work closely with parents and external agencies
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
  • Lead development and implementation of SEND policy
  • Monitor quality of SEND provision and evaluate impact of funding
  • Ensure all SEND-related policies and reports are up to date
SEND Operations
  • Maintain the SEND register and provision map
  • Advise staff on the graduated approach to SEND support
  • Coordinate and monitor interventions and review provision termly
  • Analyse assessment and progress data for SEND students
Access Arrangements (EAA)
  • Audit EAA records, identify students requiring assessment and sign off decisions
  • Liaise with external agencies and attend annual JCQ training
Student Support
  • Identify needs, coordinate support and secure external services
  • Lead annual EHCP reviews
  • Support student transition and promote inclusion across school life
Leadership & Line Management
  • Report to SLT and Governors on SEND provision
  • Line manage Assistant SENCO and LSAs
  • Lead staff training and share specialist guidance
  • Work with pastoral and safeguarding teams on student needs
