Job summary

An educational support company in the UK is seeking an experienced In-Person Tutor to work with children who are out of school due to special educational needs or behavioral challenges. The tutor will engage with students to rebuild confidence and support their learning. Ideal candidates will have experience with SEN needs, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently. This role is term-time only, offering flexible hours to suit individual student needs.

Qualifications

In-Person Tutor Supporting School-Refusing Students
Flexible hours Term-time only SEN & Behavioural Support

We are looking for experienced and compassionate tutors to work 1:1 with children and young people who are currently out of school due to SEN, SEMH, or behavioural challenges. This role focuses on rebuilding confidence and engagement with learning, not just academic outcomes.

The Role
  • Deliver 1:1 tuition during school hours (typically 9 00, Mon Fri).
  • Work in students homes or community settings.
  • Teach core subjects (English, Maths, Science) with tailored approaches.
  • Communicate with parents, schools, and professionals to track progress.
  • Record outcomes and feedback accurately.
Hours & Flexibility
  • Typically 6 15 hours per student, per week.
  • Term-time only evenings and weekends free.
  • Option to take on more students for additional hours.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching or tutoring children, ideally with SEN/SEMH needs.
  • Confident working independently and managing a flexible timetable.
  • Strong communication and rapport-building skills.
  • Patience, resilience, and creativity in approach.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) and safeguarding knowledge.
  • Driving licence and access to transport often required.
