Are you a creative arts graduate who loves helping young people express themselves? This role gives you the chance to bring your artistic flair into a SEND setting where imagination really matters.

We’re supporting a welcoming school in Durham that is looking for a calm, patient and creative Teaching Assistant to work with pupils who have autism, social communication needs and a range of learning differences. Your art background will be a real asset, helping students explore ideas, build confidence and engage with learning in new ways.

What you’ll be doing:

• Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups, using creative tasks to spark engagement
• Helping young people regulate emotions through sensory and art-based activities
• Working closely with teachers and therapists to adapt tasks and routines
• Creating structure and reassurance for pupils who thrive with predictability
• Encouraging independence and celebrating progress, big or small

What we’d love from you:

• A degree in Art, Fine Art, Illustration, Graphic Design or a related subject
• Some experience supporting children or young people, either paid or voluntary
• A calm, empathetic approach and genuine interest in SEND
• Someone who enjoys problem solving, creative thinking and hands‑on learning
