Qualifications

Job description

We are currently recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to join a small, nurturing specialist school in Bilston, starting January. These are full-time positions, working Monday to Friday, with opportunities for long-term and temp-to-perm placements.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support children with a range of additional and complex needs, including SEMH, attachment disorders, learning difficulties (LD), ASD, ADHD, trauma-related needs, and looked-after children. The school also incorporates talking therapy and a highly personalised approach to learning and wellbeing.

Working closely with teaching and therapeutic staff, you will help pupils to engage with structured routines, regulate emotions, develop positive relationships, and access learning in a safe and supportive environment. Support is provided both in and out of the classroom, ensuring each child can progress at a pace suited to their individual needs.

The SEN Teaching Assistant Role:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND including SEMH, attachment disorders, learning difficulties (LD), ASD, ADHD, trauma-related needs, and looked-after children
  • Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation and individual learning outcomes
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to meet EHCP goals
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
  • Support pupils with personal care or physical needs, where required
  • Promote independence, confidence and resilience in learners
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following roles:
  • SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND TA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor
  • Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school
  • Strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with attachment disorders, learning difficulties (LD), ASD, ADHD, trauma-related needs, and looked-after children
  • Empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach
  • Excellent behaviour management strategies
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential
