Education Matters Group are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mixed mainstream primary school in St Albans.

This role focuses on supporting children with Special Educational Needs to reach their full potential and work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to provide tailored support across Years 1–6.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
  • Supporting learning and helping pupils access the curriculum.
  • Assisting pupils with social, emotional and communication development.
  • Supporting independence and confidence.
  • Adapting activities and providing additional encouragement.
  • Working with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support strategies.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitoring and recording children's progress where required.
  • Promoting safeguarding and the wellbeing of all pupils.

SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT PRIMARY SCHOOL

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire

School Type: Mixed Mainstream Primary School

Age Range: Year 1 Year 6

Contract: Full-time / Long-term

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: Dependent on experience

Education Matters Group are currently recruiting for a dedicated and caring SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mixed mainstream primary school in St Albans.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and helping them reach their full potential.

The Role as an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the wider school team to provide tailored support to pupils who require additional help with their learning, communication, behaviour and social development.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
  • Supporting children with their learning and helping them access the curriculum.
  • Assisting pupils with their social, emotional and communication development.
  • Supporting children to develop independence and confidence.
  • Adapting activities and providing additional encouragement where required.
  • Working alongside the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support strategies.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitoring and recording children's progress where required.
  • Promoting safeguarding and the wellbeing of all pupils.
The Ideal Candidate

  • Confident working with children across Years 1 6.
  • Able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Calm and consistent when supporting children who may present with challenging behaviour.
  • A strong communicator and team player.
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and professional.
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN is desirable, but relevant transferable experience will also be considered.
