Job summary

Educo Recruitment Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term role in St Albans. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND, aiding their learning, communication, social and emotional development.

You will collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualised plans, adapting activities to meet diverse needs and encouraging confidence, independence and engagement in learning.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEND in a school, nursery, care, or similar setting is desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) is required.
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and nurturing when supporting children with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
  • Support pupils' learning, communication, social and emotional development.
  • Work with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support plans.
  • Adapt activities to meet individual needs and abilities.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence and engagement in learning.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive learning environment and build trust with pupils.
  • Assist with daily routines and support after-school clubs where needed.
  • Monitor progress and share observations with the teaching team.

We are recruiting a caring, patient, and dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in St Albans. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to work within a supportive and inclusive environment, providing tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs and helping them develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference in children's lives and can provide nurturing, consistent, and individualised support both inside and outside the classroom. Whether you are an experienced Special Needs Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Assistant, graduate, or someone looking to develop a career in education, we would love to hear from you.

The Role:
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Supporting pupils with their learning, communication, social and emotional development
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support strategies and learning plans
  • Adapting activities and resources to meet individual pupils' needs and abilities
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence, independence, and engagement in learning
  • Supporting pupils who may have communication difficulties, sensory needs, behavioural challenges, or other additional needs
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils and helping them feel confident and valued
  • Supporting pupils with daily routines and encouraging greater independence
  • Monitoring and reporting on pupils' progress and sharing relevant observations with the teaching team
  • Assisting with the school's after-school club on some days, helping to provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children at the end of the school day
We're Looking For:
  • Experience working as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant or supporting children with SEND in a school, nursery, care, or similar setting is desirable
  • A caring, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • The ability to remain calm and consistent when supporting children with additional needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children and colleagues
  • A willingness to learn and adapt your approach to meet individual needs
  • Reliability, professionalism, and a genuine passion for supporting children to thrive
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
