Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Southend-on-Sea is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant with SEN experience for a secondary school. You will provide one-to-one and small group support to students with additional learning needs, helping them engage with the curriculum.

You will work with teachers and the SEND team to implement individual targets, support learning, and promote inclusion, wellbeing, and positive outcomes in a caring, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience with children or young people in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of SEND (ASD, ADHD, SEMH or learning difficulties).
  • Committed to inclusion and student wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEND.

  • Encouraging student independence, confidence, and resilience.

  • Building positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Supporting students during lessons, breaktimes, educational visits, and school activities where required.

Secondary Teacher Assistant - SEN Specialist

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Do you have the patience, empathy, and dedication to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential?

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join our supportive secondary school team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students, helping them develop academically, socially, and emotionally within an inclusive learning environment.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and the wider SEND team to provide tailored support for students with additional learning needs. You will play a vital role in helping students access the curriculum, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEND.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Has an understanding of SEND, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, or learning difficulties.
  • Is patient, compassionate, and adaptable.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can work effectively as part of a team.
  • Is committed to promoting inclusion and student wellbeing.
  • Has a positive and proactive approach to supporting learning.

A Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant training would be advantageous but is not essential.
