Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant with SEN experience to join a secondary school in the Cambridge area. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and support staff to provide tailored support for pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH and other learning needs.

The role involves one-to-one and small group support, helping implement IEPs and EHCP targets, and promoting an inclusive, positive learning environment. A patient, proactive communicator is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Teaching Assistant or similar in a school.
  • Experience supporting SEN in secondary setting.
  • Knowledge of ASC, ADHD, SEMH and other needs.
  • GCSEs in English and Maths required.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education or SEN support desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEN.
  • Support pupils inside and outside the classroom to promote engagement.

Location: Cambridge Area
Salary: £93 - £103 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant with Special Educational Needs (SEN) experience to join a welcoming secondary school in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting young people and helping students overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEN.
  • Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom to promote engagement and learning.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the SEN department to deliver effective interventions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support students' social and emotional development.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role within a school setting.
  • Proven experience supporting students with SEN, particularly within a secondary school environment.
  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional learning needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, SEN Support, or Teaching Assistance are desirable.
