Job summary

Step Teachers are seeking a Secondary Teaching Assistant (SEND) to support students with a range of needs in an 11–18 secondary school with sixth form. The role offers either full-time or part-time hours, with an immediate start and a contract running until half-term, with potential extension to Christmas.

You'll work one-to-one and in small groups, supporting pupils' academic, social and emotional development.

Qualifications

• SEND experience is essential for supporting students with diverse needs.
• Experience in a secondary school setting is desirable.
• Understanding of ASD, ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties is beneficial.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient, adaptable approach.

Responsibilities

• Support SEND students one-to-one and in small groups.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
• Help students develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.

Duties as a Secondary Teaching Assistant:

• Support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
• Work on a one-to-one basis and with small groups of students
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons
• Help students develop confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours
• Support pupils with academic, social, emotional, and communication needs
• Promote inclusion and ensure students can access the curriculum effectively
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the SEND department

Ideal Secondary Teaching Assistant:

• Previous SEND experience is essential
• Experience working within a secondary school setting is desirable
• Understanding of a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patient, caring, and adaptable approach
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
