Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a SEN Primary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Southend. SEN Primary Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic SEN Primary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a real difference by supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them develop both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEN.
  • Assist children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and other learning difficulties.
  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to implement personalised learning plans.
  • Support pupils in developing confidence, independence, and social skills.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
Essential
  • Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, support work, or similar setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, resilient, and compassionate approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
Desirable
  • Experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or other SEN requirements.
  • Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3).
  • Knowledge of EHCPs and SEN support strategies.
  • Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, or safeguarding training.
