Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant with SEN experience to join a welcoming secondary school in Yorkshire. The role involves supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and other learning needs to help them engage and progress.

You will work closely with teachers and the SEN team, providing one-to-one and small group support, assisting with IEP targets, and promoting inclusive learning. The position is full-time, term-time only, with competitive daily pay of £93-£103.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar in a school setting.
  • Experience supporting students with SEN in a secondary environment.
  • Knowledge of ASC, ADHD, SEMH and other learning needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, empathetic and proactive approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • GCSEs in English and Maths.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, SEN Support or Teaching Assistance desirable.

Responsibilities

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant with Special Educational Needs (SEN) experience to join a welcoming secondary school in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting young people and helping students overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEN.
  • Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom to promote engagement and learning.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the SEN department to deliver effective interventions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support students' social and emotional development.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role within a school setting.
  • Proven experience supporting students with SEN, particularly within a secondary school environment.
  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional learning needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, SEN Support, or Teaching Assistance are desirable.
