SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Rotherham, South Yorkshire
Contract Type: Full-Time / Part-Time (Flexible Options Available)

About the Role

We are seeking a caring, patient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Rotherham. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN.
  • Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Assist with personal care where required.
  • Support pupils in developing communication, social, and life skills.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting observations to teaching staff.
Requirements
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is desirable.
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in challenging situations.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or speech and language needs.
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour management training.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Experience working within a school, specialist provision, or care setting.
