Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) in Portrush is seeking a Classroom Assistant - Special Educational Needs to support pupils with additional learning needs in the classroom and beyond. You will assist with day-to-day activities, help implement education plans and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.

The role requires understanding of health and safety, safeguarding and the ability to work as part of a team, with a flexible approach to meet pupils’ needs.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area from a recognised awarding body.
• Minimum 6 weeks experience in a learning environment or as part of a placement.
• Desirable: Level 3 qualification and English/Maths passes.
• Understand health and safety, child protection and safeguarding.
• Demonstrate effective planning, teamwork and communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with educational support and care for pupils with special educational needs.
• Contribute to inclusion within mainstream settings under direction of teachers.
• Support movement, personal needs and participation in programmes.
• Assist with administration, record-keeping and preparation of materials.
• Attend relevant in-service training and support work placement students.
