Job summary

St Mary's Primary School Ardglass seeks an energetic Classroom Assistant with SEN experience. You will support pupils with special educational needs, help access the curriculum, and assist with personal care under the guidance of teachers and Education Authority.

Essential criteria include Level 2 qualification or equivalent with experience in learning settings. The role involves flexible hours across school days, safeguarding responsibilities, and contributing to pupil progress and resources.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 2 qualification in a relevant area plus 6 weeks’ experience in a learning environment or placement.
• Or have 12 months’ experience working in a formal learning environment.
• Demonstrate health and safety knowledge and safeguarding awareness.

Responsibilities

• Assist with SEN pupil support and care, enabling curriculum access and attending to personal needs as required.
• Contribute to Education/Education Authority plans and participate in evaluations of support.
• Promote inclusion in mainstream settings and assist with behavioural management as directed.
• Support movement around school and transport; monitor medical/dietary needs when needed.
• Provide administrative support and maintain pupil progress records.
