Job summary

The Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant to support pupils in designated classes under the direction of the class teacher. You will help with everyday classroom activities, reinforce learning, supervise groups and assist with materials and ICT usage.

Applicants should have a Level 2 qualification or 12 months’ experience in a learning environment, with knowledge of health and safety, safeguarding and maintaining a supportive learning atmosphere.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area from a recognised accredited awarding body.
• Have a minimum of 6 weeks experience in a formal learning environment or part of your Level 2 qualification.
• Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety, development needs of children and safeguarding.
• Evidence effective planning, organising, teamwork and communication to support child-centred learning.
• Ability to follow systems and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in the efficient running of the class and in managing the learning environment.
• Supervise and support pupils in and out of the classroom, including using ICT and library activities.
• Prepare materials and assist with administration and record-keeping as directed by the teacher.
