SEMH Teaching Assistant – New SEND School – Salford

Start: ASAP | Pay: £95‑105/day DoE (PAYE) | Hours: Full-time, Mon‑Fri, 8:30am‑3:30pm | Contract: Temp‑to‑Perm opportunity

Step Teachers are working with a brand‑new SEND school in Salford that supports pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a school from the very start, helping to shape a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for young people aged 11‑16 who have struggled to access mainstream education.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant you’ll:

  • Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups with learning and emotional regulation
  • Safely manage behaviour and de‑escalate challenging situations
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to promote progress and wellbeing
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging pupils to engage, achieve, and develop resilience

To be successful you’ll need:

  • At least 3 months’ experience supporting children/young people with additional needs (SEMH, SEND, or behavioural)
  • A calm, proactive, and supportive approach
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
