Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant for a Preston-based specialist SEMH school. The role focuses on supporting secondary pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health needs, using firm boundaries, consistent routines and empathetic guidance to help students regulate emotions and return to learning.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting SEMH students in a school setting.
• Ability to use de-escalation techniques to support emotional regulation.
• Strong boundaries with patience, empathy and consistency.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted 1:1 behaviour interventions and mentoring
• Support pupils experiencing emotional dysregulation
• Use de-escalation and behaviour management strategies
• Help pupils recognise triggers and develop healthier coping mechanisms
• Reinforce clear expectations, routines, and boundaries
• Support pupils returning to learning after incidents
• Build trusting relationships with pupils who have struggled in mainstream education
