Barchester Healthcare is seeking a skilled Second Chef to join our team and help deliver fresh, seasonal menus for residents. You will support the Head Chef, create nutritious meals, and foster a warm, welcoming kitchen environment in a care home setting.

The role is full-time, with a 7am–5pm shift and occasional weekend work, focusing on quality, nutrition, and resident satisfaction. Training and support are provided within a values-led environment.

Qualifications

• Personable and warm approach focused on resident wellbeing.
• City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent.
• Good understanding of nutrition.
• Experience with fresh seasonal food.
• Ability to create a warm, welcoming environment for residents.
• Confidence engaging with residents to tailor menus.
• Good HACCP understanding.

Responsibilities

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
• Assist Head Chef in menu development.
• Work with fresh produce to deliver high quality, wholesome dishes.
• Create a warm, efficient and fun environment in the home.
• Work within budget.
• Complete regular audits.
• Manage stock control.
