Job Overview

The purpose of this role is to provide high-quality technical support to the Science department, ensuring that practical lessons run smoothly, safely, and effectively. We are seeking an organised and enthusiastic Science Technician who can prepare and maintain equipment, resources, and laboratories to support engaging teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. We would particularly welcome applicants with a background in Physics, who can bring additional expertise in supporting A Level practical. You will work closely with teaching staff to set up and clear away practical activities, manage stock and resources, and ensure that health and safety standards are consistently met. The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a strong commitment to supporting pupils’ learning.

The role is offered on 35 hours per week on a 44-week basis. Office hours are 08:00 – 16:00, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, organise, and set out equipment, materials, and resources for practical lessons across the science subjects.
  • Provide specialist support for A Level Physics practicals, ensuring experiments are resourced, prepared, and delivered effectively.
  • Maintain, clean, and store apparatus safely, carrying out minor repairs where necessary.
  • Ensure laboratories and preparation areas meet all health and safety requirements, following COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines.
  • Support teachers during practical lessons when required, helping pupils to use equipment safely and effectively.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels, order resources, and maintain accurate records of materials and equipment.
  • Dispose of waste materials and chemicals safely in accordance with regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of science events, demonstrations, and extracurricular activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the efficient day-to-day running of the Science department.
  • Contribute to a positive, safe, and supportive environment for pupils and staff.
Other Responsibilities
  • Be an active member of the Science department, contributing ideas and energy to its ongoing development.
  • Support the delivery of practical science learning for pupils across all age groups and abilities.
  • Undertake administrative tasks relating to stock control, ordering, and record-keeping as required.
  • Contribute to whole-school STEM initiatives and enrichment activities, such as science clubs, fairs, or outreach events.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and school policies.
  • Promote equality of opportunity and inclusion for all members of the school community.
  • Complete 3 day First Aid training and contribute to First Aid duties.
