Job summary

Education Authority in Newry is seeking a part-time Cook to assist in the preparation and cooking of meals at St Joseph's High School Crossmaglen. You will work 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in a school kitchen with a focus on hygiene, portion control and customer service.

The role includes some supervision of staff, stock management, and promotional activity to boost uptake. A retainer fee is paid during school holidays.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent or higher relevant qualification.
• Two years’ experience of food preparation and cooking within a catering establishment.
• Willingness to undertake job related training.

Responsibilities

• Skilled cooking activities for a full range of meals and assist with menu planning and portion control.
• Assist with record keeping, hygiene and health and safety in the kitchen including temperature recording.
• Assist in direction or shared supervision of other employees and operational control of service points.
• Undertake stock-taking, planning of meals, stores/fridges management and receipt of deliveries.
• General kitchen duties including washing up, cleaning, and keeping dining room surrounds tidy.
• Assist in promoting the service to parents, principals and customers to increase uptake.
• General duties delegated in connection with service provision.

Education

NVQ level 2 in food preparation and cooking

City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent or higher relevant qualification
