RPA Senior Developer (Intelligent Automation)
Role Overview
The RPA Senior Developer plays a key technical.NO and leadership role in driving the Council’s digital transformation agenda through the design, development, deployment, and support of Robotic Process Automation (RPA), AI automation, and chatbot solutions.
This role combines hands-on senior-level development with technical leadership, mentoring and close collaboration with business stakeholders. The post holder will help reshape how council services operate by automating complex processes, improving efficiency and embedding intelligent automation across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery & Ownership
- Design, develop, implement, deploy and maintain RPA solutions and AI‑driven automations, ensuring stability and performance in live environments.
- Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of automation solutions, from process assessment and design through to deployment and ongoing support. bí
- Contribute to the development and deployment of AI chatbots using the Council’s chosen platforms.
- Support the Digital Programme Manager in the maintenance of AI models used for automation.
- Provide Level 1 support for live automation solutions, resolving incidents and implementing improvements.
Technical Leadership & Mentoring
- Act as a technical authority for RPA and intelligent automation within the organisation.
- Provide hands‑on guidance তারা mentoring and development support to junior developers.
- Conduct code reviews, enforce development standards, and promote best practice.
- Collaborate with the RPA Business Analyst to develop training plans and upskill the automation team.
Process Analysis & Business Change
- Work closely with the RPA Business-registration and service stakeholders to identify, assess and prioritise automation opportunities.
- Analyse and re‑engineer business processes to ensure they are optimised for automations.
- Apply a solution‑focussed approach to address service challenges and improve customer outcomes.
- Support organisational and cultural change by promoting new digital ways of working.
Governance, Documentation & Testing
- Produce and maintain high‑quality technical documentation, including Process Design Documents (PDDs) and Solution Design Documents (SDDs).
- Develop comprehensive test plans and test scripts, supporting UAT and documenting outcomes.
- Ensure adherence to the Intelligent Automation Team’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Reporting, Insights & Continuous Improvement
- Analyse data generated by automation solutions to identify opportunities for optimisation and further automation.
- Produce monthly automation reports, highlighting performance metrics, efficiency gains, savings and trends.
- Stay current with developments in RPA, AI‑powered automation and chatbot technologies, applying learning to improve solutions.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences, influencing decision‑making and securing buy‑in.
- Support the successful delivery of cross‑departmental automation initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities

Person Specification
Essential Knowledge

- Proven knowledge of RPA, AI automation and chatbot technologies.
- Strong expertise in C# and the .NET framework (essential).
- Understanding of digital transformation, service redesign and continuous improvement.
Knowledge of software development lifecycle and automation governance.

- Knowledge of Python.
- Awareness of project management methodologies.
Essential Experience
- Experience delivering automation or digital change in a large, complex organisation.
- Demonstrable experience influencing stakeholders and driving cultural change.
