Job summary

Octane Recruitment is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) to provide roadside assistance for a national breakdown company. The role is located in Bridgwater with 40 hours weekly and shifts 6am–12pm, including overtime opportunities and a strong benefits package.

You will diagnose faults, perform roadside repairs, and advise on next steps while ensuring safety in diverse conditions. A Level 2/3 qualification and at least 2 years of hands-on experience are required, plus a valid UK driving

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 or Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualifications.
• Minimum 2 years post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles in either workshop or mobile role.
• Must have a full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and quickly assess vehicle faults.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical roadside repairs (battery changes, wheel changes, minor engine fixes).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible to keep members mobile.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Pay / salary

£36,400 OTE: Up to £61,000

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12pm, Monday to Sunday. Shifts known 4 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and / or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home, as soon as you start the van.

What you'll need to a be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum of Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance and repair or ideally Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent)
• Must have a minimum 2-year post-qualification hands on experience with vehicles. Either in a workshop or mobile vehicle type role.
