Job summary

Octane Recruitment has a Nights Roadside Technician role (field-based) covering the Leicester area for a national breakdown service with over 15 million members. Excellent salary, overtime and bonus opportunities; first-rate training and progression prospects accompany the role.

The position requires Level 2/3 light vehicle maintenance qualifications, 2+ years post-qualification experience, and a full UK driving licence with up to 6 points. Expect 40 hours weekly, nights, and a van-based start.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance and repair (Level 3 preferred).
• Must have a minimum 2-year post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles.
• A customer-focused approach and a full UK driving licence (max 6 points, no bans).

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside, including battery replacements, wheel changes, and minor engine fixes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn’t possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Pay / salary:£42,921.87OTE: Up to £53,000+

Job type:Permanent / Full time role

Shift and schedulefor the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12pm, Monday to Sunday. Shifts known 4 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and / or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home, as soon as you start the van.

What you’ll need to a be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum of Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance and repair or ideally Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent)
• Must have a minimum 2-year post-qualification hands on experience with vehicles. Either in a workshop or mobile vehicle type role.
