Job summary

Octane Recruitment is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) to join a national breakdown provider in Oxford. This permanent, full-time role offers a 40-hour week between 6am and 12am, with flexi overtime and a strong benefits package.

You will attend breakdowns, perform mechanical and electrical roadside repairs, and use diagnostic tools to identify faults. A Level 2/3 qualification in light vehicle maintenance, plus at least two years’ hands-on experience and a full UK driving licence,

Qualifications

• Level 2 or Level 3 light vehicle maintenance qualification (City & Guilds/IMI/NVQ or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years' hands-on vehicle experience in workshop or mobile role.
• Customer-focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence; max 6 points; no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and quickly assess vehicle faults.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical roadside repairs (battery, wheel changes, minor engine fixes).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and decide repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible to keep members mobile.
• Advise members on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely in varied environments and conditions.

Job description

Roadside Technician (field-based) providing roadside assistance for a national breakdown company with over 15 million members. Great salary, benefits, overtime and bonus opportunities.

Pay / salary: £36,400 OTE: Up to £61,000

Job type: Permanent / full-time role

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

Job Responsibilities for the Roadside Technician role

• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

What you'll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
• A customer-focused approach.
• Must have a full UK driving licence - max 6 points, no bans.
