Job summary

St Peter & St James Hospice in Hassocks, England, is seeking a Retail Stock Supervisor to oversee donated goods processing and volunteer supervision at our Distribution Centre. You’ll maximise income through Gift Aid, recruit and train volunteers, and coordinate with shop teams to sustain stock flow.

The role supports essential hospice care and offers a meaningful career path. The position is full time, 37.5 hours/week, with a salary of £25,513–£25,927 per annum.

Qualifications

  • Experience within a charity retail environment.
  • Ability to motivate, engage and support volunteers.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience working with or supervising volunteers.
  • Understanding of retail Gift Aid and its importance in generating income.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Awareness of manual handling practices and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Confidence using IT systems and databases.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience of online selling platforms and knowledge of retail brands and trends would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the acceptance, sorting and processing of donated goods, ensuring supporters receive an excellent experience.
  • Maximise retail income by promoting and administering Gift Aid registrations and prioritising the processing of Gift Aided stock.
  • Lead, support and motivate a team of volunteers, ensuring they are engaged, informed and working effectively.
  • Assist with the recruitment, induction and training of Distribution Centre volunteers.
  • Identify valuable, donated items and ensure stock is distributed to achieve the highest possible income.
  • Work closely with shop teams and retail colleagues to maintain an efficient flow of stock across the retail network.
  • Respond to stock requests and help ensure shops and online selling platforms have sufficient stock to meet targets.
  • Minimise waste, maximise recycling opportunities and maintain high standards of housekeeping.
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed and raise any concerns appropriately.

The Vacancy

As our Retail Stock Supervisor, you'll play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operation of our Distribution Centre, ensuring donated goods are processed efficiently and effectively to generate essential income for hospice care. If you're passionate about excellent customer service, motivating volunteers and helping us make the most of every donation, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Salary: £25,513 – 25,927 per annum
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week over 5 days
