Job summary

St Peter's Hospice is seeking a Retail Sales Assistant for our Mangotsfield shop. The role involves assisting with sales, stock presentation and delivering excellent customer service in a charity retail setting.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, five days in seven (weekends/bank holidays), with part-time considered for the right candidate. Salary is age-dependent with hybrid working options possible.

Qualifications

  • A genuine interest in home ware, furniture, second hand and charity retail.
  • Ability to carry out manual handling tasks.

  • IT literacy including email and basic spreadsheets.
  • Previous retail experience would be useful but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close the store when required and ensure trading safely and legally.
  • Assist management in achieving profit targets by reducing costs and maximizing sales.
  • Operate as part of the shop team, carrying out tasks to ensure smooth running.
  • Support delivering a high standard of presentation on windows and shop floor.
  • Assist management in implementing changes to maximise sales.
  • Assist management in generating and encouraging stock donations from the public.
  • Actively supporting and demonstrating our values through your role.

Job description

The Vacancy

Sales Assistant roles help you to develop a wide range of skills which you can take with you throughout your career! We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Retail Sales Assistant at our Mangotsfield shop!

You will be work alongside experienced, knowledgeable and friendly managers and team members. If you have a passion for second hand, recycling, upcycling and enjoy being in a role that builds strong relationships, a role in which you can feel valued in, and knowing you are contributing to the care of patients and their families, then we want to hear from you!

The details:
  • Salary: £12.21 per hour, aged 21 and over (£24,852 FTE per annum)
  • Salary: £10.00 per hour, aged under 21 (£21,215 FTE per annum)
  • Permanent position
  • Working 37.5 hours per week, 5 in 7 days (including weekends and Bank Holidays)

Part time will also be considered for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities:
  • In the absence of any other management to open and close the store and to be responsible for ensuring that the store trades safely and legally
  • To assist the management team in achieving profit targets by reducing costs and maximising sales
  • To operate as part of the overall shop team, willingly carrying out any tasks necessary to ensure the success and smooth running of the shop
  • To support delivering a high standard of presentation throughout, windows and shop floor
  • To assist the management team in implementing any changes as required to ensure optimum sales
  • To assist the management team in generating and encouraging all stock donations from the public
  • Actively supporting and demonstrating our values through your role

You may be asked to take responsibility of the store on an adhoc basis and so ideally would have supervisory experience
