Job summary

M&S is seeking a Security Officer to help create a safe, welcoming and secure environment for customers and colleagues across Exeter, Plymouth, Torbay and Exmouth. You will stay calm under pressure, lead with professionalism and protect our stores, people and products.

This role requires strong communication, a proactive mindset, and the ability to respond quickly to incidents while working closely with store teams to maintain high standards and support operations.

Qualifications

• Previous security experience is preferred.
• A valid SIA licence is desirable, although not essential.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A calm, confident and professional approach.
• A proactive mindset with the ability to make sound decisions quickly.
• A genuine passion for customer service and keeping people safe.
• All candidates must be able to provide a 5-year checkable work history within the UK.

Responsibilities

• Operate in a fast-paced retail environment, staying alert, responsive and ready to step in when needed.
• Create a welcoming store environment, greeting customers and delivering professional support to customers and colleagues.
• Help keep our stores safe and secure, preventing loss, responding to incidents, and identifying risks.
• Be digitally confident, using store technology including mobile reporting systems and body-worn cameras.
• Stay calm under pressure and act professionally and confidently in challenging situations.
• Work closely with store colleagues to maintain high standards, support operations and create a positive environment for everyone.
• Show flexibility as retail moves fast and adapt to changing situations to support the store.
