A leading healthcare provider in the United Kingdom is seeking a full-time Medical Registrar to provide high-quality care for elderly patients. The role involves supervising junior doctors, leading MDT discussions, and participating in on-call duties. Candidates must hold a medical degree and have experience in acute medical settings. This position offers flexible working options and focuses on professional development and staff well-being.
This is a full‑time (9am‑5pm) appointment working within the Medicine Division team, with additional participation in the thematic medical registrar on‑call rota to provide acute medical take and out‑of‑hours ward cover. Working alongside Specialty Doctors, Consultants, and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), the post holder will provide high‑quality care for general inpatients on the Care of the Elderly wards. These wards are well supported with daily consultant‑led ward rounds and a team of junior doctors. The Registrar will play a key role in organising ward rounds, reviewing unwell patients, identifying those fit for discharge, and leading the MDT in the absence of the Consultant. The role includes providing middle‑grade supervision and clinical support to junior doctors, active participation in decision‑making, and ensuring safe, effective, and patient‑centred care both during normal hours and while on call. Lead and coordinate consultant ward rounds, ensuring effective prioritisation of patients. Review acutely unwell patients promptly and escalate as necessary. Identify patients fit for discharge and support timely discharge planning. Lead the MDT in the consultant's absence, ensuring collaborative working and effective communication. Provide middle grade cover for junior doctors, offering guidance, supervision, and teaching. Participate in the thematic medical registrar on‑call rota, including acute medical take and ward cover for general medical patients. Liaise with MDT members, attend and lead family meetings, and provide patient and relative updates. Act as the medical team lead during on‑call periods, coordinating patient flow from admission to transfer or discharge. Work closely with nursing, allied health professionals, and other specialties to ensure patient safety and continuity of care. Contribute to clinical governance, morbidity and mortality reviews, and root cause analyses where applicable.
