Job summary

Birmingham City Council are seeking a proactive Repairs Contracts Works Officer to support delivery and management of responsive repairs, maintenance, and capital works across the Council’s housing stock in the North of the City.

The postholder will act as a technical and operational link between contractors, internal teams, and residents, ensuring works are completed on programme, to budget, and to required standards. This role is hybrid and lone working; a full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in building/construction (e.g. ONC/D, BTEC in Construction, Building Surveying, Building Services, or demonstrable equivalent).
• Knowledge of housing repairs legislation, building maintenance standards, and landlord compliance responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Support the management and monitoring of repairs and maintenance contracts to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policy, and contractor contractual obligations.
• Diagnose building defects and specify solutions with strong technical knowledge.
• Communicate effectively and build relationships with contractors, internal teams and residents.
• Experience managing contractors and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
• Assist with contract performance management, including monitoring KPIs, service delivery, costs and contractor compliance.
• Investigate customer complaints, councillor inquiries, Ombudsman inquiries and defects to resolve issues promptly and effectively.
