Registered Nurse - Urology

Are you passionate about delivering high quality care? Are you highly motivated, enthusiastic and looking to work in a fast paced environment? Look no further! Colchester Hospital has an opportunity for a Urology Nurse in our Urology Day Unit (UDU).

In this post you will have the opportunity to learn more about the Urology specialty and learn new extended skills. This will include undertaking urology nursing skills, for example, assisting in flexible cystoscopy, prostate biopsies, lithotripsy, running nurse‑led clinics such as trial without catheter (TWOC), intermittent self‑catheterisation/dilatation (ISC/ISD) teaching in Colchester under the direction of the Urology Nurse Practitioners.

You will have the full support of experienced urology nurses who are willing to support you to meet your training needs. You will also be supported to reach the competence required to help deliver the urology service and to develop your clinical skills to enhance your patient care.

Main duties of the job
  • You will assist in the delivery of a patient‑centred, clinically effective and dynamic service from the patient's admission to the unit to discharge. You should be caring, compassionate, forward thinking, well organised and have a positive attitude towards flexibility and change.
  • In this role you will work as a member of the team to achieve the unit's objectives contained of providing high quality care to our urology patients.
  • You will ensure safe, holistic and individualised patient care is delivered at all times.
  • You will undertake urology nursing skills, for example running nurse‑led clinics such as trial without catheter (TWOC), intermittent self‑catheterisation/dilatation (ISC/ISD) in Colchester under the direction of the urology nurse practitioners.
  • You will admit patients for procedures such as ESWL, template biopsies and cystoscopy, and ensure the smooth running of these clinics.
  • You will assist with procedures such as cystoscopy and template biopsies, as well as overseeing and ensuring the smooth running of flow rate clinics.
  • You will also use clinical expertise and collaborative working to review urology services and make recommendations for improvement.
