The CYP Eating Disorders Day Hospital Service is currently mobilising. This specialist provision delivers intensive, evidence-based care to children & young people experiencing moderate to severe eating disorders. This innovative service aims to bridge the gap between inpatient and community care, offering a safe and structured alternative to Tier 4 admission & facilitating earlier discharge from hospital settings.

Operating through a MDT working collaboratively to provide holistic, person-centred care, each professional brings their expertise to support physical health monitoring, nutritional rehabilitation, psychosocial interventions & occupational engagement, all tailored to the unique needs of each young person & their family.

  • In-reach and Outreach supportto prevent unnecessary hospital admissions & reduce relapse.
  • Intensive day hospital interventionsfocused on recovery, risk management, & re‑engagement with daily life.
  • Meal support and psychoeducationfor young people & their families, promoting sustainable recovery at home.
  • Multidisciplinary care planning and supervision, ensuring continuity & quality of care across settings.
  • Training and consultationto professionals and carers, enhancing system‑wide understanding and support for eating disorders.
Main duties of the job

This mobilisation represents a significant step forward in the West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative's commitment to transforming eating disorder care for children and young people and aligns with nationally driven new care models for children and young people.

  • Prevent unnecessary admission to Tier 4 or acute paediatric wards.
  • Deliver intensive & evidence-based community interventions to reduce relapse & re‑admission.
  • Provide advice, meal support & guidance to systems surrounding the patient.
  • Provide monitoring of physical health of children & young people including weight/height checks.
  • Supporting in high intensity work aimed at managing risk and providing an alternative to admission for severely unwell young people.
  • Provide meal support to young people & families evaluating the process at each visit.
  • Providing psychosocial interventions focused on clinically indicated interventions e.g. distress tolerance, emotion regulation, basic CBT, motivational exercises, psychoeducation, distraction activities, supporting symptom management, problem solving skills.
  • Assess, plan & implement & evaluate patient care plans in relation to physical health, as part of wider CEDS care plan for the patient.
  • Support discharge planning through supported day leave with meal supervision.

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to accept applications from newly qualified Band 5 nurses due to the current unavailability of clinical preceptorship support.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with experience of working with Children and Young People OR Registered Children's Nurse.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Knowledge across a range of paediatric procedures, underpinned by relevant theory.
  • Training in psychosocial interventions.
  • Training in the management of eating disorders.
Experience
  • Experience of nursing young people who are suffering from mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of developing care plans/packages for young people, and giving specialist advice to young people dependent on their needs.
  • Working in a multidisciplinary team. Experience of negotiation and conflict management and in clinical situations.
  • Experience of maintaining team medical/nursing equipment, stock levels, ordering stock supplies; experience of supervising other staff.
  • Experience of working in specialist mental health/learning disability settings.
Skills
  • Demonstrate working knowledge/understanding of evidence based practice.
  • Skills in engaging with hard‑to‑reach young people and families.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to relate sensitively to young people with mental health difficulties and their carers.
  • Skills in paediatric nursing assessment, and in assessing and interpreting complex needs of patients.
