Job description

We are seeking a Registered Building Inspector to join a growing team on a contract basis. This role is pivotal in ensuring that buildings within the council's jurisdiction are designed and constructed in compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of Developments including new applications, regularisation, and reversion applications.
  • Ensure all buildings comply with relevant standards in health, safety, sustainability, energy conservation, accessibility, and design.
  • Conduct plan appraisals and site inspections, maintaining thorough records of all assessments.
  • Undertake the evaluation of work and necessary remedial action for compliance with Building Regulations and the Building Act 1984.
  • Carry out remedial/enforcement actions under the supervision of a more competent/validated Building Control Surveyor.
  • Manage non-domestic low-risk buildings and dangerous structures, including out of hours work as required.
  • Respond to changes in workload and priorities with flexibility, including extended working hours when necessary.
Job Requirements
  • Experience in Building Control within the buildings sector.
  • Registration with the Building Safety Regulator as per Part 2A of the Building Act 1984 is necessary.
  • Thorough understanding of Building Regulations, the Building Act 1984, and related legislation.
  • Competence in managing technical projects and maintaining detailed records.
  • Ability to undertake 'out of hours' work in accordance with team requirements.
  • Excellent decision-making skills in line with the Building Safety regulator competence framework and council's jurisdiction.
