Job summary

Optegra Eye Healthcare in Kent Clinic is seeking an experienced optometrist to join our team on a zero-hour contract with flexible shifts. You will conduct pre- and post-operative assessments and support refractive and cataract procedures, with access to a comprehensive benefits package and funded development opportunities.

The role requires current GOC registration and extensive optometry experience, with duties including patient care, EMR documentation, and KPI-driven performance.

Qualifications

  • GOC registration as an optometrist is required.
  • Extensive optometry experience in refractive, high street, or hospital environments.
  • Experience using patient administration systems and EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out pre- and postoperative examinations for refractive surgery, cataract, and medical retina procedures.
  • Run acute and follow-up clinics and document findings in EMR.
  • Provide health advice and patient support at the hospital.
  • Refer patients to a medical practitioner when appropriate and follow referral protocols.
  • Ensure awareness of equipment safety and CQC policies.

The Role

As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team working alongside consultants, you will be required to carry out pre and post-operative consultations, assessing the suitability of patients for treatment. Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out examinations that are associated with refractive surgery, cataract, and medical retina procedures.
  • Run acute and follow up clinics postsurgery for patients documenting findings in the electronic medical record systems.
  • Provide health advice and support to patients attending the hospital.
  • Provide first line clinical advice to patients and follow the appropriate means of referral to a medical practitioner if necessary.
  • Ensure awareness of the uses, safety precautions and handling of equipment within the clinical competency framework.
  • Ensure awareness of CQC policies and updates, attending all mandatory update courses
What You’ll Need
  • Current GOC registration as a fully qualified optometrist
  • Extensive experience working as an optometrist in a refractive, high street or hospital environment
  • Experience of using patient administration systems and electronic medical record systems
  • Experience of working to conversion targets and other KPIs within Vision Correction
