Job summary

Optegra Eye Healthcare in Colchester is seeking an experienced VC/Refractive Optometrist to support private patient pathways. This is a part-time role, 9.5 hours per week across Fridays, with potential to take extra shifts at other local hospitals and clinics.

You will join a multidisciplinary team, perform pre and post-operative assessments for cataract patients, and contribute to service delivery and growth.

Qualifications

• Current GOC registration as a fully qualified optometrist.
• Extensive experience working as an optometrist in refractive, high street or hospital settings.
• Experience using patient administration and electronic medical record systems.
• Experience meeting conversion targets and KPIs within Vision Correction.

Responsibilities

• Carry out examinations associated with cataract surgery.
• Run acute and follow-up clinics post-surgery and document findings.
• Provide health advice and support to patients attending the hospital.
• Provide first-line clinical advice and refer to a medical practitioner when needed.
• Ensure awareness of equipment uses and safety within the clinical framework.
• Stay updated with CQC policies and mandatory update courses.

The Role

As an integral part of a multi disciplinary team working alongside consultants, you will be required to carry out pre and post-operative consultations, assessing the suitability of patients for treatment. Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• - Carry out examinations that are associated with cataract surgery.
• - Run acute and follow up clinics postsurgery for patients documenting findings in the electronic medical record systems.
• - Provide health advice and support to patients attending the hospital.
• - Provide first line clinical advice to patients and follow the appropriate means of referral to a medical practitioner if necessary.
• - Ensure awareness of the uses, safety precautions and handling of equipment within the clinical competency framework.
• - Ensure awareness of CQC policies and updates, attending all mandatory update courses

Requirements

• -Current GOC registration as a fully qualified optometrist
• - Extensive experience working as an optometrist in a refractive, high street or hospital environment
• - Experience of using patient administration systems and electronic medical record systems
• - Experience of working to conversion targets and other KPIs within Vision Correction
